Jeffrey Konen - Mixed Media Abstract Artist

Santa Fe Series I & II, is a two-part series completed over three months at Radiant Light Art Studio –a rural live-in art studio just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  This series is an earth-toned, abstract expressionist, look into the Southwestern United States. Konen repurposes and reimagines materials as inventive compositions, which communicate landscapes in entirely new ways that have rarely been seen. Taking inspiration from his stay and all the drives he took through the back-roads of Western Kansas, Southern Colorado, and Northern New Mexico, Santa Fe Series I & II communicates a sense of the rural and rustic through highly textured materials, such as tattered and torn textiles, old burlap, rusted metal, paint, stained oil rags, and other found objects by reimaging their texture and materiality into landscape and place.  His modern and abstract re-interpretation of the Southwest is a refreshing re-imagination of an area that has come to be known for its stereotypical representations.
