Konen's newest series, Santa Fe, is an earth toned, abstract expressionist look into the Southwestern United States. Taking inspiration from his drives through the back-country of Western Kansas, Southern Colorado, and Northern New Mexico, he communicates a sense of the rural and rustic through highly textured materials, such as tattered and torn textiles, old burlap, rusted metal, paint, stained oil rags, and other found objects. His modern and abstract interpretation of the Southwest is a refreshing reimagination of an area known more for its stereotypical images of Native Americans, turquoise trade, and landscapes.
